We were at a sheriff’s sponsered festival, drinking and eating. It began to rain hard so everyone took cover under the vendors tents. As the rain slowed one of the vendors became upset that soo many people were in “his” tent.(Rented) People were asked to get out. Then the vendor’s bouncer attacked my friend, pushing him to the ground and choked him until he turned blue. The sheriffs quickly responded, but by the time they got there all they saw was my friend intoxicated and pissed off. My friend was booked for drunk in public. He wants to press charges against the bouncer and possibly the vendor. Does he have a case? A lady in the crowd came forward offered to be a witness.

Your friend was charged by the sheriff’s for public intoxication. I don’t think that proving that he was attacked by the bouncer will offset that. However, you should press charges against the bouncer.
Also, use the fact that your friend was attacked to challenge the public drunkeness. He can claim that he was disoriented from being choked by the bouncer which gave the appearance of him being intoxicated.
