From Wisconsin–My boyfriend got into trouble with credit card debt and didn’t pay for many years. He was taken to court (he did not attend the hearing) and a judgment filed against him for wages to be garnished for 13 weeks. After 13 weeks, he will only have made a dent in the nearly $7000 debt. What happens after the 13 weeks is up? We want to get this paid off but won’t be able to pay it all off at once. Should he just keep paying a monthly payment after the garnishments ends? Will he be taken back to court? Thanks for any input.

It is likely that his wages will still be garnished, just not in the same amount as the court realizes that he still needs to support himself. You can always work out a private payment plan with the credit card companies as well that would be monthly deductions.
