I moved from California to Georgia and place 90% of my house hold goods in to 20×30foot storage units. Both of my units were double locked the the owners/reps. However my units never went to auction because I paid the balance due prior to auction sale. I was told the workers open the gates and take pictures. I did not have access to my units when they were pass due for a period of apprx. 6 months, but when I paid everything current and went to the unit i discovered 1/3 of my personal belongings had been removed from each of my units. I took pictures of what my units looked liked and took pictures after some one clearly went into the unit and removed items. I did not have acce4s to the units only the owner/his reps. I was told it was probably the maintenance man who took m stuff. I condensed my property to one 20×30 unit and eventually to a 15×20. I was told by the manager that I had very good high quality property in my unit. The point is I had items removed from my unit when i had no access to the unit and did not have access to the gate entry. THe only person who had a key and or access were employees of the storage unit because they cut my lock off. They took pictures and i took pictures to show the damaged and broken items. the pictures also show how boxes were stacked before the theft and how there no longer existed after the theft discovery.
Do I have recourse and can i file a theft by taking charge in small claims court. They told me they did not have cameras on the units only to discover that they do and did have cameras at the time of the theft. They are they are the only people who had access to the units.
I was also visible to several units where they were storing property that belonged to others and was told if i had anything I did not want i could store in their community property unity.
