I currently employ as a babysitter a young man going through a nasty relationship break up. He recently broke up with a boyfriend who happens to be the 21-year-old son of my neighbors and who is a government employee at a military facility on a military installation. My husband is an active duty officer assigned to this installation as well, but is deployed. There is an alleged history of physical abuse on the part of the ex-boyfriend, as well as alleged damage to physical property of my babysitter done by this person. I say alleged b/c I have not witnessed it first hand. My concern is that given his alleged history of anger management issues, my children may potentially be in harm’s way should he visit his parents and discover my babysitter alone and vulnerable at my house. As a result of this concern, I notified the military police as well as his commanding officer of the situation as it had been told to me, made clear I had no proof of the alleged behaviors, and only wanted to have it noted that I raised the concern that he could lose his temper in the presence of my children and on my property. I was told that they would make a report but no actions would be taken against him unless he committed a criminal act that I reported to the civilian police first. I notified my neighbor of my actions, who informed her son and directed him to have no further contact with me or my sitter. However, yesterday evening, he sent me a threatening email stating that “false accusations are illegal” and implying that I blatantly lied and would be held legally accountable. He also texted my sitter that his father was getting a lawyer to “come after me”. Apparently, he doesn’t understand the word “allegedly”. In any event, should I be worried? I accused him of nothing but the possible potential to lose his temper on my property.

My fiance and I helped my uncle move out of my aunt’s house. Nobody knew he was leaving. The things he took with him were all possessions he bought, including a $15 wireless router. Apparently they misplaced my deceased mother’s wedding gown [which they all knew I wanted]. They called the cops and said we broke in, took the items [gown and router] without consent and there was a warrant out for all three of our arrests. I later received a text from my cousin saying they found the gown. I called the officer as soon as I received the message. The officer was away at a car accident scene, and then the shifts changed. I doubt the officer got the message of the gown being found got to the officer. Either way, it’s over with. I now want to sue for defamation of character and false incrimination. My fiance and I have careers that have been put in jeopardy now and in the future. What can I sue for? I also want to sue them for the gown and 2 pictures I was told, by my mother, I could have.

charges were filed against my husband for theft by the police officers. my mother, which is the victim wants the case dismissed due to the fact she wore the jewelry numerous times after the officers claimed he so called pawned the jewelry. my mother as been trying to get a hold of the officers to explain this however they are avoiding her. i heard that in some cases if the victim refuses to testify the case can be dropped. Is this possible even if the victim did not sign the charges?

In reference to the answers in my first posting, I know that this woman who has falsely accused my husband has no money and if I sue her I wouldn’t get anything. However, if I sue her for our expenses and deformation of character and she does not pay, would she be possibly put in jail. That would actually be just as satisfying as getting the money back if not more.

My husband has been falsely accused of rape and our attorney has stated that the court system will likely drop the charges because of lack of evidence and since the DNA tests which were taken came back as negative. This incident which he did not deserve to have happen to him has caused him to spend over a week in jail resulting in over $1300.00 in lost wages. The police also impounded his truck which had my work keys and laptop in it, this resulted in around $600.00 in lost wages for me along with the fees to get the truck out of impound. We have spent close to $15,000.00 (including attorney fees, fees from the jail, charges to get our truck back, etc…) just to get through the situation. Not to mention the mental and emotional anguish of having our family separated that way. I want to know what we can do to get some type of retribution for the situation since the woman he was accused by came to a gathering at our home uninvited and was asked to leave multiple times before she actually did. Then after she left, she reported that my husband raped her and the police arrested him even though there were at least five witnesses who told them that he had never been alone with her. I know that placing a false police report is illegal, but I am also concerned with the deformation to my husbands character, and the money we have lost. What can I do within the law?

My question is about making a false report that my boyfriend got violent with me. He is now in jail and I feel completely horrible because I made the story up just for revenge. I did not know that they were going to do this. Anyway. I have an appointment to Thursday to confess that I did in fact make a false report. I live in Colorado and I don’t know what the consequences will be for me? I am also 35 weeks pregnant. So what will happen to me?

My Sister was in Macys with her friend. Her friend took something from the store and my sister had no idea. The people in the store brought them both in the back office and went through her purse as well as the girl who “actually stole something” My sister had no part in it and it was HER BIRTHDAY to make the day more embarrassing. We both know people in loss prevention and was told it is illegal to go through a purse or detain someone without cause.. Is that true. ? she was embarrassed and had other friends that had to watch her go through this. Again she did nothing wrong and had no part in it. PLease let me know. I am so angry at someone treating her like a criminal

My sons ex-wife has been granted temporary relocation to Oregon but has to return to AZ for hearing. The woman with whom his ex-wife is living with and working for filed a stalking order against my son on herself stating that he is harrassing her. The whole order is false & full of lies. My son had the initial hearing today telephonically and there is a hearaing scheduled for 1-26-2010 for which he has to appear if he wants to fight this, which he does. He has an attorney in AZ for the upcoming relocation hearing and having to obtain a lawyer in Oregon also may not be financially possible. Any information on maybe Attorneys that provide legal coaching in Oregon or on how to prepare for this pro se would be greatly appreciated.
