I was recently engaged to a guy the convinced me into helping him open a company. Long story short, he lied stole $ and ruined my credit. He opened credit accounts using my ss # and never paid them, accessed bank accounts and wrote check signing on my behalf. All without me knowing. After finding out I kicked him out of my house ( which I later lost trying to regain my financial footing) he took ALL the product and material moved it to a different warehouse, changed owner title in vehicles that I paid for… WHERE do I start???

Hi
I’ve been with a bank for seven years. I deposit a check in my account for 14270.00 from my insurance company because my car was totaled with me and my husband name on it. The check cleared and I was utilizing my account. A couple of days later I decided to add my husband on to the account and a week later my account was on hold and I wasn’t notified. I was in the market with a cart full of food when the clerk told me my card was declined. I called the bank and they told me that my account was frozen because of fraud. When I finally spoke with security they told me my husband owed 5900.00 and that was the reason my account was on hold. Keep in mind my entire account was on hold which was a total of 14,500.00. My entire account was on hold and I was left the weekend with no funds. I couldn’t pay my mortgage and the bills that I previously paid through my account was returned and slapped with fees. I was then told to come in and open a new account without my husband on it and the money will be transferred over and I did. Again I was utilizing my new account. Well a week later it happened again and this time they are telling me because the check was written out in both our names they can take 5900.00, which is owe to them by my husband.
After I spoke to my husband he told me eight years ago he did time for bank fraud and is paying restitution every month. I called the bank back and she told me she needed to speak with his PO and the US court system to verify that he was paying. Well they spoke to both parties and paper work was sent over to them. At this time they still have my money on hold and are giving me the run around and the crazy part after paying restitution for some time he only owes 291.00. They have yet to give me any answers and they still have 5900.00 of my money frozen.

Do I have a case? I am stressed out and I have lost work going back and forth down to the bank and the court system. I have been humiliated in front of a contractor when I tried using my debit card for the second. I have late fees on bills that were paid and return because my account was frozen. Can you help me?

My husband, from whom I’m separated, opened my mail and stole convienence checks from a credit card that is in my name only. He is not a joint applicant on the card and he is not an authorized user. He forged my signature on 4 checks totaling over $6,500. I had no knowledge that he did this until I received my credit card statement. Capital One says I have to pay the debt because he is my husband. We do not live together and I had alreday filed for divorce. Am I responsible for this debt?

I recently discovered a charge for $944.65 to my Visa which I did not authorize. I called the bank’s customer service and was told to explain the situation in writing. In November when I was at the showroom, I used my credit card to pay a deposit of $944.00 on custom window treatments. I was not told by the salesperson that my credit account information would be put on file and the dealer would use it again nor did I authorize usage of the card for anything but the $944 deposit. I was given no agreement nor did I sign any document giving the dealer permission to make future charges on my credit card. In December, the installer showed up to our home with part of the order incorrect. Both my husband and I have called and e-mailed the sales rep several times but she has not gotten back to us. Meanwhile, my Visa was charged for the balance of $944.65 without my permission. The bank claims it’s a “quality of service” issue and will not investigate whether I did indeed authorize the charge. Was it legal for this merchant to charge my credit card a second time without my knowledge? Do I have any recourse?

I am a receptionist ata hotel in Nottingham. Last week there was a booking for about 20 people for a period of 10 days and they paid by credit card a total amount of £1680. We however got a phone call from a company in Nottingham claiming that the card used had been stolen and therefore they want their money back. Are we liable for paying them back the money or it`s the company that has been defrauded’s insurance company that pays them back?
