we live in MD my daughter is now 18 and in college are there any legal grounds for her to keep child support? her father wants to contest the blanket child support order for the two children. my son is 14 and is ok, but since my daughter turned 18 their father does not want to pay for her anymore.
My fiance has been helping his ex with her childeven knowing that it is not his child. We love her child very much. She gave the child his last name. And now has threatened us that she wants to get child support from us because she got angry because we couldn’t watch her child for her. I was wondering if she can actually collect knowing it is not his child. And if she can since my fiance is currently unemployed and if we get married soon, will I have to pay the child support?
my ex is currently incarcerated and has asked to suspend child support effective the date when went in to jail I’m in Maryland so maybe the laws are different in different states but the way I’m taking this is that while he is incarcerated he will not be racking up child support it will be paused is this correct ? i have contested this motion because i don’t feel this is fair i think while hes is in jail he should most definitely be racking up child support i have been waiting for child support sense December of last yr and the judgment was received in march so its back dated from January and he went into jail in April so child support had not even begun. i do agree to giving him 30 days upon being released to start paying but i don’t agree with him not having monthly payments add up my expense’s do not stop for my daughter because he is unable to pay so before i get rude comments like cut this man some slack hes pretty much been nonexistent in my daughters life he did not make it to any court date weather it was for child support or custody nor has he given me a dime of even bought diapers when i asked for them so why should he just get to pause this anyway like i said ive contested this and am waiting for a hearing date but i just don’t feel like this is right for him to get away from having back child support add up because hes incarcerated maybe I’m interpreting this wrong but am i correct is that whats going to happen ? when he does get released in 10 months he will only owe me for Jan through march ? and will not have to pay for the months he was incarcerated for ?
I live in IL and my ex husband lost his job on purpose during divorce proceedings. So child support was calculated based on unemployment. I found out he started working again FT back in May and my child support is still the same. What do I do to get it adjusted? He wont even tell me where he is working.
If both parents have shared custody can the parent making less money ask for/file child support ?
if the biological mother owes 36000.00 in back support….mom and dad have 3 kids together…mom has just recently gotten custody of the oldest 2 which are now 15yrs old…she has only had them for 2yrs…the other child is with mom’s aunt…dad owes aunt 7500.00 in back support…why hasn’t mom gone to jail, but dad has twice…and had to pay a purge amount of 1500.00 to the aunt…aunt is ref to give custody to either parent…what can be done? Can dad sign over his rights? demand that aunt either give custody back to one of them or legally adopt the child?
My ex will not give me any money for child support. He said he will stop paying our mortgage if he pays for the baby! Is this legal? My son is 9 months old and we have not lived in my house for 3 months. I have never asked his father, even when we lived together, for a dime. I pay for the food, diapers, medicine, cloths and child care on my own. He will not give me a dime. What can I do? I need some help from him, i feel like I’m drowning.

currently I’m am unable to provide for my self financially. i was given an order to start paying child support even tho i didn’t have a job at the time. i explained to the support people that i was less than a year from graduating with a degree in forensic science. didn’t matter to them. i get my baby on average about a week per month due to the distance of the mother. i support the baby in any way that i can but at the moment I’m torn between finishing school or facing jail time for this. when i went to court there was no one on my side to tell me all my options. i don’t mind paying but i don’t have anything to pay with! i think there should be something that can be done to push this back until i graduate and get a great paying job!
My fiancee currently owes about $6,000 in back child support (accumulated when he was on disability for 6 months.) His grandfather recently passed away, and he may be receiving an inheritance. He has been on unemployment for the past year, and is garnished for child support from each check for current support, no back support. Can his ex wife come after him for back child support in full? What if the inheritance is small, between $5,000 and $10,000…can she legally be granted every penny? Or are there laws in CA restricting how much she can take (like 40 percent?) Thanks for your help.
