My 28 year old son and his 21 year old friend went shopping at BJ’s wholesale club(they are members). They bought 4 cases of water,a case of Mountain Dew,a pack of Danishes. After they paid they showed the checker at the door their receipt. As they were exiting 4 police officers detained them ,searched their cart, frisked them in the foyer and ran their ids for warrants. They found nothing. My son and his friend were frightened and humiliated. Can they do this? They took nothing. They were told they looked suspicious. My son’s friend is Hispanic. This is a primarily white community? Hamilton Township NJ

You cannot prove they were stopped due to race nor was the search unlawful. They could have refused. This of course could have provoked an arrest but they did have that option. If you click on my username it will take you to a site with experts in this area of law. They can advise you what you can do. I can assure you sueing wont do a thing but there are other options
