I live in Providence, Rhode Island and recently was charged for drug possession. I started calling around to several different criminal lawyers in the Providence area. As I was calling around I did not directly speak with a single time, and yet the paralegal or assistant quoted me over $200 + dollars for a single consultation. This consultation I truly believe could be done on the phone within 10 minutes or so.
I would think if a lawyer wanted to take my case, he would be able to skip the consultation and just hire me as a client without having to pay him to let him no my charge. My question is why would a lawyer charge me for a consultation for my drug possession. Are there any lawyers you can recommend in Providence, RI that offers free consultation for criminal charges? I see free consultation for other cases such as injury so I think there would be one for criminal cases.

Most criminal lawyers charge a consultation fee because they are spending time listening to your case when they can be working on other billable work. If you look hard enough though, you should be able to find a lawyer that is willing to listen to you without a consultation fee. My recommendation is look at a their websites and see if they offer free consultations. I’m assuming you are looking in the yellow pages.
Do a lawyer search for a criminal lawyer and then read their web pages. A lot of criminal attorneys give free consultations over the phone. the bottom line is you need a good Providence, Rhode Island attorney. If you have to pay to meet with an attorney, so be it. It will be well worth the money to beat this drug possession rap.
