I live in Knoxville, TN and was involved in an assault and battery last week. The person that assaulted me is in jail on a bond. I am pressing charges against him and need to know how much it will cost me to hire a lawyer? I don’t have a ton of money so should I get a lawyer on pro-bono? I was hit pretty hard in my face and I broke a rib. I would like to get some of my medical bills paid for but again, I really don’t have the money to hire a big shot attorney. Any recommendations?

If you were involved in an assault and battery case you do not have to hire a lawyer. The courts will provide a prosecutor to go after the person that committed the crime. On the flip side, if you are looking to hire an attorney to pay for your medical bills and pain and suffering you need to find a personal injury lawyer. A personal injury attorney will help you get compensation for things like loss of time from work, medical expenses and pain and suffering. I would do a search in http://www.targetlaw.com and put in Knoxville personal injury lawyer or Knoxville assault and battery injury lawyer. In any event find an attorney that specializes in getting settlements for assault and battery cases. These attorneys are different from criminal attorneys so make sure you read their websites before you make the call.
