Is it illegal to have alcohol on your personal property?

I live in Maryland. A cop rode by my friends house while they were drinking on the front porch and told them that he could lock them up if he wanted to.

Perhaps there is some sort of local ordinance that prohibits this. What town does your friend live in?
I don’t see why it would be illegal to drink alcohol on your back porch as long as it is on your property. There may be some local statue that prevents you from drinking in public. What city state do you live in?
