A handgun is found during a police search of a car that was pulled over for speeding. If the gun was found in the back seat, does the driver automatically get charged with a handgun possession? Do the passenger(s) also get charged?

Both the passenger and the driver can be charged with possession of the firearm. If one of the parties confesses that it is there gun, then usually the charges are dropped against the other party. It’s important to know who you are in a car with and what they have on them. The same goes with drugs.
