Hello, i have a question about employee theft. I live in Millersville, Maryland and the event took place at GameStop in Hanover, Maryland. I was caught adding extra money to gift cards while doing a return for a friend. I know that i will have a court date but i do not know anything about law. What should i have prepared? Should i be expecting jail time? It was for under $250 over a 6 month period. The cop that handled my report said that it is all up to the judge but as a cop, he could not give any advice. Should i represent myself? I will be pleading guilty but what’s the best way to go about this?

Depending on state law this could be a felony charge. Evn if not you do not want to represent yourself that would be your second mistake. If you click on my username it will take you to a site just for retail theft issues. The experts there can answer your questions. There are also links to laws on site as well. I suggest you go there
