dog bites another dog

My question is. How much of a liability do I have if my dog somehow gets out of my backyard while I am not at home and bites a neighbor’s dog. My dogs have never bitten anyone or anything. I live in California and would like to know if I am liable for vet bills that might have been accrued? Please advise!

Sincerely,
Mike

Owner liability for dog bites depends on the city and state that you live in. In your case, the liability is lessened because your dog bit another dog and not a person.
You may also want to check your renters or homeowners insurance as you may have already protected yourself against suits if there is a canine provision in the policy.
If they do try to bring a suit I would reccommend
consulting with a personal injury lawyer.
