Dismissed Case Re-Tried? I had a trial for red-light camera violation (in CA)..

I had a trial for red-light camera violation (in CA). When my case was called up, the officer was not present, so the judge dismissed the case. On my way out, the clerk said the officer was in another courtroom and would be coming in later. So I waited (over 3 hours), had a trial that seemed rushed (didn’t get a final argument, judge wouldn’t look at my photos), and found guilty. What can I do this case, is it OK for the judge to dismiss the case and then make me go through the trial? Also the officer didn’t testify, the officer’s supervisor testified instead, is that OK? Shouldn’t I get to cross-examine the actual officer who signed the citation? There are so many things about this trial that just didn’t seem right… but maybe I am just confused.

Should I get a lawyer to help me appeal the case? I really don’t feel this was fair, it is not about the fine or the traffic school or any point on my record. I just want fair treatment, and to see what my rights are.
