I am asking this question for a friend. He and his wife were married for 10 years and own a landscape architecture business together. He is wiling to split the business with her, but she is claiming that she is entitled to alimony too. Isn’t this “double-dipping”? While she was the primary care-giver of the two children, she was never away from the job market and the children are now old enough that she could work full-time. They made the same hourly rate but because he worked more, his income was technically higher.

My divorce took over a year. It was finalized in December 08. I started a business in 2001 which is a Limited Liabilty Partnership and my ex-wifes father is my partner. We are now working on dissolving this partnership, just like a second divorce. I never had court orders for alimony or maintenance but I did agree to give her half my income ($5600)/month until the divorce was finalized. Over the course of 2008 she manage to take out a total of $180,000. Now the partnership tax returns have been prepared for 2008 and all the draws she took were applied to my K1. (Did I mention that her mother has been my bookeeper for the last several years?) So not only did she take the money, but It looks as if I will have to pay the taxes. Is there any hope? Our divorce decree states that she is to pay the taxes on any income, but it looks as if this was not considered income. HELP

When I divorced my ex-husband 7 years ago the judge awarded “Family Support” for me and our three children.
Does the order amount change when one of my children reaches the age of 18? I was told by a State employee that this type of order remains unchanged until the youngest child reaches 18, is that true?

Alimony in Maryland

Hello,
I am filing for divorce from my husband in Maryland. It has become apparent that he is going to contest the divorce and I want to know if HE has a right to alimony.
We both work and I cannot afford a lawyer.I make more money than he does, but he lives with his mother and pays virtually no bills. We have no children and the house is mine (I bought house about 6 years before I met my husband)
He is the type of person that will have a lawyer and I wanted to know what his rights are for Alimony, if applicable, because he has used me in the past to get money to take care of his family. Some husband huh!!
Thank you

My dad might re marry and we are worried because the woman he chose is a little untrust worthy. She knows he has my mom’s life insurance money invested. If he signs a prenup that states she has no right to the money is he safe. He lives in CT. Thanks

modification of decree North Carolina

I am very angry. I was divorced a year and a half ago. I live in Okinawa. My X divorced me, it was uncontested because I could not go to the court in NC. There is nothing in the decree about child support, visitation, alimony. He lied and said we were seperated for a year. I sent him a seperation agreement to go hand in hand with the divorce decree. The court set a date, sent me a letter, he told me that he postponed the date to get the seeration paperwork done. next thing you know I am divorced. This was in 2006. In that past year and a half, I have struggled with my two children,he gives me some money but decides to cut it off when he wants. He recently cut it off again and I have to struggle. I was told child support can be taken care of by the courts, but what about my rights, my alimony. Is there any way I can get a new court order to establish all of that or a modification or complaint.I was married for 12 years. Can you please direct me in the right direction?

I am going through a divorce with a women I’ve been married to for over 12 years. We recently broke up and now going through a messy divorce. I’ve hired an attorney to handle my case. The other day we met with both my attorney and her attorney. She is being very stubborn and wants the house, car, kids you name it. She also wants a huge sum of money each month, almost the same amount of money I make per month. It is just crazy. My attorney told me no to worry about it because there is no way my ex-wife could get in other words the “farm”. I live in West Virginia. Does anyone have experience on this matter?
