is the police able to charge u with a felony retail theft charge if the store has you on camera picking out merchandise going in the dressing room with a flat purse and u come out its puffy? the merchandise was left in the dressing with other clothes in the dressing room from previous customers. there was other customers in there that day too. no one was stopped when leaving the store. a month later looking at pictures the police said everything that was touched and put in the cart was what was taken from the store. that’s how they decided the total amount of two hundred to charge a felony. and if the person don’t corporate on telling what happen with the merchandise they will send it over to the state attornoy to file charges
I was going through a divorce, my attorney dropped me because I didn’t have the next retainer. I was really mad. I was in Walmart and because of some bad experiences with Walmart, I decided to take a jar of cream worth 21.00. I couldn’t get over the guilt and decided to write and tell the store what I did and wrote a check for the cost of the cream. After my divorce, I moved from that state. What happens now that I live in another state and have admitted to shoplifting?
Charged for shoplifting in NJ for $7.65 and disorderly persons. what do I expect? first time offender no records of any type?
i am 19 pregnant and a first time offender.. i am being charged with shoplifting from Walmart.. what will most likely happen to me in court? the total was about 50.00. i have no job and no money (which is my reason for doing it in the first place). i know what i did was wrong and i am completely regretful. since it happened i have gona into a state of depression where i was not able to get anything prescribed because of my pregnancy and i have also suffered from lack of sleep, stress, and Ive had to force myself to eat. i am in college and i live with my parents however, they are disappointed with me being pregnant that they’ve cut me off from everything except a place to sleep and they limit how much food i can eat. i get monthly “checks” from WIC and that is helping a little with my food situation. should i tell this to the judge? what should i plea? what is going to happen to me?
My daughter was shopping at Wal-Mart with her boyfriend when he got a cart of his own and left her in the clothing section to continuing shopping in the grocery area. After a bit my daughter had to use the restroom and went to the ones at the front of the store past the registers. She left the cart with all the items she had picked outside the restrooms. When she had finished she walked out, got her cart, and proceeded back to the retail area. Loss prevention took her and told her she was being detained for shoplifting. Her purse or pockets were never checked. She had nothing in them anyway except personal property. She was being arrested for what was in the cart. She asked to see video surveillance as to why they suspected her so she could understand what she did to cause her detainment. They told her that they had no video. According to my daughter she had never gotten near the exit doors either as the restrooms are located in the middle of the store. Did they have a right to have her arrested and charged with felony shoplifting? I find it strange as well that her boyfriend’s debit card had been declined for the groceries. He didn’t know what was going on. After an hour the store finally told him. He called me and then went to another grocery store, spent more there and his card was fine. I find that odd as well since when at Wal-Mart a friend of his who banks at the same credit union had just before purchased his items with his debit card and it went through fine.
what will happen in court with second offence shoplifting. my first offence was a fine of 485 dollars. can i possibly do jail time or will they just make me pay a fine
Do I have any rights if I was searched for shoplifting and there was no probable cause in my opinion. This happened in the central valley at a large department store.
if you switched a tag on an item and got stopped while you were online can you still be charged? i switched the tag on a dress a nd was stopped while i was online before paying for it. they are now charging me $500.
I was with a friend while shopping at Nordstroms. I found a sweater that I wanted to purchase, however, my friend wanted to continue shopping downstairs. So, we went down the escalator to look at shoes and bags and such. As a store manager at a clothing store it is not abnormal for me to drape clothing over my shoulder to move about the store. It seems that the conversation and the end to a very long week left me absent minded as i walked past the lease line with the sweater still on my shoulder. At ten feet into the mall i was halted by an LP officer, who jumped in front of us. I immediately asked for him to bring me to a register to pay for the thing but I “lost the opportunity to do so as soon as I left the store.”
I was detained, asked to sign papers admitting to theft, which I refused. He searched my purse and got my ID, as he would not let me do this. Then he gave my a lovely little slip of paper with a civil claim number highlighted. Im trespassed for two years (may as well be forever as I will never shop there) but no police were called. He photographed myself, and the 50$ sweater, read the forms and made me sit there for thirty or so minutes while he and another manager whispered and laughed in the room with all of the cameras.
Basically I have no idea what any of this means as far as the bigger picture goes. What kind of money may they demand, do I have to pay? And most importantly will this follow any record?
