A shoplifter left Walgreens in Parsippany, NJ, and was then pursued by store personnel into the parking lot, where the “getaway” van ran over the shoplifter in a panic trying to avoid arrest. The police were not called at the time of the actual shoplifting, only after the shoplifter left the store and then got injured. Can the shoplifter sue Walgreens for not adhering to their policies re not pursuing shoplifters out of the store?

Hi, Last week I was caught stealing from Macy’s. A total of $66. The police were called but the gave me a paper and said I would have a court date. I also payed the civil demand. This is my first time ever getting in trouble with the law. On the paper it says Penalty: $500/90 days incarceration. What is the likely hood of me going to jail? And should I plead guilty? I know I am guilty and they have proof but I don’t know if that will result in jail time. And I really do regret what I did. I wrote a email to the stores manager to apologize.

My Sister was in Macys with her friend. Her friend took something from the store and my sister had no idea. The people in the store brought them both in the back office and went through her purse as well as the girl who “actually stole something” My sister had no part in it and it was HER BIRTHDAY to make the day more embarrassing. We both know people in loss prevention and was told it is illegal to go through a purse or detain someone without cause.. Is that true. ? she was embarrassed and had other friends that had to watch her go through this. Again she did nothing wrong and had no part in it. PLease let me know. I am so angry at someone treating her like a criminal

I was recently given a criminal trespass citation for shoplifting. It was my first offense and I am not really sure why I even did it. I have never done anything like this before.
I live in Ohio. I am a licensed teacher. Can this citation interfere with my license renewal. I am scared and ashamed. What if my employer finds out
I have been teaching in the same district 19 years.

Me and my sister were at a store in old town with my newphew and his friend. It is a trinket store and we were all looking at items, many of them small, rings, necklaces etc. We stood in line for about 10 minutes, paid for our and the kids items and after we exited the store a women approached us and asked could she speak to us. We asked her what about and she said while we were in the store he say my newphew and his friend conceal items in the sleeve of theis jacket but put them back. We immediately turned to them and told them to take of their sweat shirts and turn out all pockets, to which nothing was found. We asked her what was it they were supposed to be taking and she, being the manager said she could have them prosecuted because even if you have something in your hand and close it up before paying for it is considered stealing. I told her I had 9 rings @ $1.50 each on my hands before paying, was I stealing? Needless to say we were VERY upset at the treatment and wondering what our recourse was about this situation. The items we purchased amounted to $27.00, for an awful night of treatment.I was under the assumption that shoplifting was being found outside of the stores property with items on your person that you have no receipt for, was I wrong?? Were they wrong to stop us even after nothing was found?

my wife suffers of bipolar disorder. she tends to loose and misplace things. she was shopping at walmart. as she was checking out she forgot to pay for some items, but her bill was 280$, the few items were worth probably 30$. she was arrested by their wanna be cop. humiliated called all kind of names. asked some improper questions than called the police on her. since my wife has no record and she told them it was a mistake the police sited her for petty theft. when i called to protest to the manager she admitted to me over the phone that it was the cashiers fault, but when i went in person to the store to protest for the way they treated my wife she retracted what she told me. we have statements from our bank that shows from nov to jan between my wife and i we spent close to 1000$ dollar. what i want is apology but it seems its too much to ask for that. so what other legal recourse do i have in order to pursue justice on behalf of my wife.

I am 16 years old and live in California. I was caught shoplifting from a clothe store with 79$ worth of merchandaise. I was arrested and told that I was being charged and I would recieve papers in the mail. How much money should I be expecting to pay? When I apply for a job do I have to check yes for being arrested? Also I had items from to other stores that the police found in my bag when I went to the station but was not caught for until then.(a belt $12.50 worth from one store and two shirts under $100 from another) do I also have to pay for that?
