Want to go to law school and practise in GA. Need to know if the felony conviction I got back in 2004 would allow me to do that. The felony was in Michigan. I also have a couple of misdemeanors before that. I have since completely changed my life. Only had legal trouble for 2 years during a period of drug/alcohol abuse.

I have pending misdemeanor charges for theft by taking and stalking in Paulding County, Georgia. The state is perusing the charges not the individual, so they have no evidence or witnesses. I am not allowed to contact the individual to discuss the matter according to the state. It has been 2 years since the date of arrest and I still have not received a trial or information related to the case, all that I received what information formally identifying the charges that the state is trying to convict me of. I have never had a criminal record, an active member in the community, college educated and served in the military. I lost my job because of the pending charges and nearly 20 months later I still cannot even obtain a cashier position at Wal-Mart. Is there a statute of limitation for the case? I read Georgia code 17-3, and it stated 2 years was the limit on misdemeanor cases, but the court can change that depending on the charges.

I was arrested for public intoxication and minor in possession in Virginia two months before I turned 21. I spent the night in jail and went to court 4 days later. In court, the public intoxication charge was dropped and I was told that upon completion of an alcohol awareness class and a year of probation that my record would be clean. I am currently applying for jobs and many applications ask if I have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor. My lawyer told me that I am allowed to answer that question “no,” but I have only completed the alcohol class. I am off of probation on November 7, 2009. I don’t want to jeopardize any jobs by providing a false answer to this question. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
