breach of trust; confidentiality – indirect discrimination

i told my manager in an appraisal about some domestic abuse i suffered. I asked that this was to be kept completely confidential & under no circumstances should it be divulged to my co worker. She told my co worker & to make matters worse, she said this type of abuse is common in my culture. My question(s): is this breach of trust/confidentiality and what is the remedy? The comment on commoness… Is this indirect discrimination and what is the remedy? Thanks
