Two years ago I signed a purchase contract for a new car for my future husband (fiance) in Hagerstown, MD because he had terrible credit and had just been laid off from work. He promised he would get a job and start making the payments, which he did for 2 years. We never had any agreement in writing or anything and did not even share a bank account. We were just living together.
Now we have broken up and canceled the wedding, my ex-financee took off with the car, while I am still getting the bills. The automotive finance company is threatening to ruin my credit and repossess the car. should I call the police? Is this auto theft? should I call the finance company? I feel awful about the break up and don’t really want to deal with right now.

I would call your deadbeat fiance and have him stroke you a check for the amount of the car, or you will call the cops. This way you will not be on the hook for the

I think it is probably a good thing that you never signed any kind of contract or agreement with your fiancee. You own the car. He does not. He took the car without your permission. I would call the Hagerstown police immediately and report the vehicle stolen. They will send a police officer over. Just explain the situation that you own the car, show him the bills, and ask that your boyfriend be arrested, and you will get the car back.
Once you get the car back, you will probably have to sell it if you can’t afford the payments. I would call the finance company and see if you can work something out. Maybe threaten to go bankrupt if they can’t help you.
